Producer’s notes
A wet winter ended the long drought, and an early, warm spring with soaking rains brought early budbreak and strong growth. The season was warm, with dramatic heat waves around Labor Day; well kept canopies and shade cloth protected acidity and flavour, and the fruit was picked before the fires. The winery describes aromas of violet, black forest cake, warm cherry, cardamom and clove; great depth of red and black liquorice, cassis, wild blackberry and blueberry, with cedar, tarragon and thyme; earthy notes of loam, river gravel and iron; and a finish of porcini, soy and black tea. 515 cases were made.
