Cliff Lede Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry 2016

Producer’s notes

The 2016 season extended a run of exceptional years in Napa Valley: a dry winter, a warm spring without frost and with enough rain, early budbreak and moderate temperatures, with small berries picked at optimal ripeness. The winery finds the wine dense and brooding on opening, then showing warm plum, black liquorice, bay leaf and sage with a stony note, blackcurrant and fig on the palate, aromas of smoked cardamom and lavender, and very fine tannins with a violet perfume on the finish. The Poetry vineyard lies on a steep hillside facing west in the Stags Leap District, on shallow volcanic soils over fractured shale. 993 cases were made.
