Producer’s notes
A mild, rainy winter restored water in the soils after a dry 2022. Growth began well in early April, spring was mild with normal rainfall, and June was the warmest since the estate’s records began in 1962. Two spells of intense heat came in late August and early September. Picking began in unsettled weather, with hot sunny days broken by storms, and ended in warm sunshine; the harvest ran from 7 to 30 September. The wine is a bright garnet red. The nose shows ripe blackberry with touches of pastry, candy and dark chocolate; the palate is smooth and full, with powerful, well integrated tannins, notes of pencil lead and smoke, and toasted hazelnut and cocoa on a long finish.
