Château Mouton Rothschild 2021

Producer’s notes

After a mild, wet winter, budbreak was early and even in late March. A very dry April brought a cold spell that spared the vineyard, thanks to the nearby Gironde estuary. Cool, damp weather in May slowed growth, and flowering took place in excellent conditions. Stormy weather from the middle of June to the middle of July set off mildew, which drought in August and early September then halted; the water stress also raised the quality of the grapes. The harvest ran from 25 September to 6 October. The wine is deep and dark with a purple hue. The nose shows blackberry and blackcurrant with iris, spice and cedar; the palate is fresh and balanced, with cherry flavours and refined tannins, and the long finish is mineral, with spicy fresh fruit.
