Producer’s notes
The 2003 season brought heat spikes and heavy rain in spring, then a fairly cool summer that helped flavours develop. A heat wave in the middle of September brought most of the vineyards to ripeness, and the Cabernet was picked from 18 September to 9 October, all from vineyards high on Mount Veeder, some over 40 years old. Picking early kept bright acidity and firm tannins. The winery finds the wine showing like an energetic teenager: red raspberry and dried blackcurrant on the nose, with graphite, iron, rose petal and dried sage, and a long, mineral finish. It was fermented in cement vats and released in 2008.
