Château Haut-Brion 2021

Producer’s notes

A mild winter brought budburst as early as 1 March. The April frost that struck the region largely spared Haut-Brion, and heavy rain in May and June had little effect on the vines. Early summer was wet and cool, slowing growth, before hot, dry weather with cool nights ripened the grapes, and a fine September allowed a calm harvest from 13 September to 8 October. The château describes a dark purple colour and an aromatic, fine, fruity nose; the palate joins power and delicacy, full, fresh and fruity, with a long finish. It notes lower alcohol than in recent years and likens the vintage to the classic Bordeaux years of the 1990s.
