Producer’s notes
A growing season the estate remembers for its highly unusual weather. Winter was fairly mild, cold only in January, and mild conditions lasted until a sudden drop in temperature in late April, which slightly cut yields. May to August were hot and dry, often above 30°C, and rain in September helped the grapes reach full ripeness; the harvest ran from 20 September to 6 October. The wine was fermented in conical 60 hectolitre vats. It is an intense, deep ruby red, with dark, ripe fruit, blackberry and blackcurrant, balsamic hints of mint and myrtle, and spicy notes of white pepper, cinnamon and cocoa. The palate is rich, with soft, velvety, vibrant tannins and a long finish where toasty notes return.
