Producer’s notes
The 2005 vintage was officially rated Excellent in Rioja. Spring rain was moderate and well spread, and mild days with cool nights in September let the grapes ripen with the character typical of Rioja. The grapes came from vines over 40 years old; the wine spent four years in American oak barrels, from March 2006 to March 2010, racked from barrel to barrel every six months, and was bottled in November 2010. The winery describes a cherry red colour with a ruby rim; a very intense nose with balsamic notes, almond, minty chocolate, vanilla and roasted tones, then preserved fruit; and a well structured palate with pleasant acidity, soft, round, sweet tannins and a complex, lingering finish.
