Veuve Clicquot

Veuve Clicquot was built by Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, widowed at 27 in 1805, who went on to run one of the great Champagne houses. She invented the riddling table that clears Champagne of its sediment and made one of the first known vintage Champagnes, the 1810, and La Grande Dame, the house's prestige cuvée, is named in her honour. The house is part of LVMH.

La Grande Dame is led by Pinot Noir from the house's grand cru vineyards, including Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay and Verzy, and is made only in the best years. The house also made the first known blended rosé Champagne, in 1818.
