Vega Sicilia

Vega Sicilia is Spain's most celebrated wine estate, founded in 1864 in what is now Ribera del Duero and owned since 1982 by the Álvarez family. Its Único, released only after about a decade of ageing in barrel and bottle, is the most collected wine in Spain and a fixture in the great cellars of the world.

The estate's Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino, is blended with a small share of Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on limestone and clay at high altitude on the banks of the Duero. Único is made only in the best years and aged in a sequence of new and old oak vats and barrels before long rest in bottle. The family also makes Valbuena 5°, Alión and Pintia.
