Riedel
Riedel is an Austrian family glassmaker, founded in 1756 and now in its 11th generation, with its factory and museum in Kufstein. It was the first to design wine glasses around the wine itself.
The first grape-specific glasses
In 1958 the ninth generation, Claus J. Riedel, began reducing the wine glass to its essentials: bowl, stem and base, thin-blown and unadorned, with the bowl shaped to suit the wine. In 1973 this became Sommeliers, the world's first grape-specific wine glass collection, launched with the Sommeliers Burgundy Grand Cru.
