René Engel

René Engel was a legendary Vosne-Romanée domaine, run for three generations by the Engel family. After Philippe Engel's sudden death in 2005 it was sold in 2006 to François Pinault, owner of Château Latour, and renamed Domaine d'Eugénie, so wines under the René Engel name are now a closed chapter for collectors.

Its great wines came from Grands-Échezeaux, Échezeaux and Clos Vougeot, alongside Vosne-Romanée Les Brûlées, and Philippe Engel's vintages of the 1990s and early 2000s are especially prized for their depth and ageing power.
