Philipponnat

Philipponnat is a house based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, with roots in Aÿ going back to 1522, and the owner of the Clos des Goisses, one of the steepest and most famous walled vineyards in Champagne, first bottled on its own in 1935. Charles Philipponnat runs the house.

The Clos des Goisses faces due south over the Marne, on chalk, and gives powerful, long lived Champagne. Les Cintres is a single parcel cuvée of Pinot Noir. The house ferments part of its wines in oak and keeps its own reserve wines in a solera.
