Jacques Selosse
Jacques Selosse is the most influential grower in Champagne. Anselme Selosse, who took over his family's domaine in Avize in the 1970s, brought Burgundian methods to Champagne, fermenting in barrel with native yeasts and treating each vineyard as a terroir, and inspired a generation of growers. His son Guillaume has led the domaine since 2018, and the wines are among the hardest Champagnes to buy.
The domaine farms about eight hectares, mostly Chardonnay in Avize, Cramant, Oger and Le Mesnil, with Pinot Noir in Aÿ, Ambonnay and Mareuil. Its Lieux Dits series of six single vineyard wines includes Aÿ La Côte Faron, and its Substance is drawn from a perpetual reserve begun in 1986. The wines are oxidative, vinous and long lived.
