Futo
Futo is the estate of Tom and Kyle Futo, a family originally from Wichita, Kansas. In 2004 they bought 120 acres on the steep western slopes of Oakville and made their first Cabernet Sauvignon that year, with Mark Aubert as winemaker. In 2011 they added a 40 acre property in the Stags Leap District, whose oldest Merlot and Cabernet vines date from 1982. The winery was designed by the architect Howard Backen.
About 14 acres are planted in Oakville, in 26 blocks on shale and sandstone, and about 8 acres on terraces in Stags Leap, on compressed volcanic ash. The Oakville Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has been entirely Cabernet since 2019. Futo 5500, first made in 2012, is named after the address of the Stags Leap property.
