Château Valandraud

Château Valandraud is the garage wine that shook Bordeaux. Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud made the first Valandraud in 1991 from a small plot, in a garage, and within a few years it sold for as much as the First Growths. In 2012 it was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion.

The estate now has vineyards on the limestone and clay of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, east of Saint-Émilion, mainly Merlot with Cabernet Franc, picked by hand and sorted berry by berry. The wine is rich and concentrated and matures in new oak, and Virginie de Valandraud is the second wine.
