Château de Beaucastel
Château de Beaucastel is the great family estate of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, owned by the Perrin family for five generations and famous for growing all 13 permitted grape varieties. Robert Parker awarded 100 points to its Hommage à Jacques Perrin in 1989, 1990, 1998 and 2007, and to the white Roussanne Vieilles Vignes in 2009.
The vineyard of about 100 hectares lies on the rolled stones of the northern part of the appellation and has been farmed organically since the 1950s, now biodynamically. Unusually, Mourvèdre plays a leading role in the red, giving structure and longevity. Hommage à Jacques Perrin, made only in great years, is mostly old vine Mourvèdre, and the Roussanne Vieilles Vignes comes from the estate's oldest Roussanne vines.
