Biondi-Santi

Biondi-Santi is the family estate that created Brunello di Montalcino. In the late 19th century Ferruccio Biondi-Santi selected a strain of Sangiovese at Tenuta Greppo and is credited with creating Brunello, and the estate's Riservas remain among the longest lived red wines in the world. Since 2016 the estate has belonged to the EPI group, owners of Charles Heidsieck.

Tenuta Greppo lies on the hills southeast of Montalcino, and its Brunello is made from the estate's own Sangiovese clone in a classic style, aged in large Slavonian oak casks. The Riserva is made only in exceptional years. Old vintages from the family cellar, some reaching back to the 19th century, are among the great treasures of Italian wine.
