Bernard Van Berg

Bernard Van Berg came from Belgium with his wife Judith in 2001, made his first vintage in 2002 and set out to make the best wine possible from about two hectares around Meursault. His tiny cuvées, some of only a few hundred bottles, have a cult following among lovers of natural wine.

His parcels are in Meursault, Saint-Aubin and Puligny. The vines are trained up individual stakes rather than wires, the soil is not ploughed, old vines are replaced by layering and about ten vines go into each bottle, and the wines mature for 10 to 27 months without chaptalisation. Les Gouttes comes from his youngest vines, planted in 1985.
